Pre-Prep children have been spellbound by two of the stars of our upcoming Senior School Drama production ‘Seussical’. The production is a musical comedy, based on the many children’s stories of Dr Seuss. A large portion of the plot draws on one story in particular, ‘Horton Hears a Who’. It is this book that two of the starring actors in the show, along with Mrs Crouch and Mrs Monk, performed for the pupils.
The story’s main character, Horton the Elephant, has his work cut out in order to save the tiny people (‘Whos’), living on a speck of dust. No one else believes that the Whos exist, but eventually Horton convinces everyone that, ‘a person’s a person, no matter how small!’. This important message about friendship and respect resonated with some of the smallest of our community, children from Reception to Year 2.
After watching the performance, the children answered questions on the meaning of the story and the lessons that we can learn from Horton. They then split into year groups and were allowed to play with props from the show and try on some of the costumes.
