On Monday, 18 children represented the school at the ISA Midlands Athletics event in Leicester, competing against 33 schools in a highly competitive day of athletics. All pupils showed fantastic determination, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the day.
A huge well done to all the children involved β competing against 33 schools was a fantastic achievement, and every pupil should be incredibly proud of their effort and attitude throughout the day. ππ

Fun in the sun was the theme of the penultimate day of the Year 5 Residential as the English Riviera continued to be mostly bathed in sunshine, although it was certainly a cocktail with a twist laced as it was with a bitterly cold northerly wind and the threat of rain showers.
Starting with a swim in the open air pool, (warmer than the Lido they all said!), they moved on to Archery Tag where, as the name implies, you shoot arrows at each other rather than a target!
There was more vertical quests after lunch with Jacob's Ladder where upper body strength, lightness of foot, agility and teamwork were definitely key attributes for success, before their sense of direction was seriously challenged with Orienteering which took place around the Manor House.
The day was concluded with Campfire, sitting in the woods and being regaled with stories, anecdotes and songs by the PGL staff - a fitting way to close off the day with toasted marshmallows as an added treat.
In summary, the children have been brilliant throughout the week in all aspects - champions in their own right, hopefully like Heart of Midlothian come Saturday afternoon.
Their attendance and attitude to the rigours and challenges of the week have been superb, for sure, and they have been regularly mindful of time in various situations such as helping others in and out of harnesses.
Going forwards, the week on the sunny south coast, well known for its sandy coves (or combes) flanked by red sandstone cliffs, has been a huge success.
All 37 of the boys and girls can rightly be proud of themselves in how they have conducted themselves and all that they have achieved.

Our woodworkers have had great fun in the workshop this year, learning how to saw wood safely, use the hot glue guns and create amazing things with their own hands.
The Year 6βs built bridges, testing things out with paper first and then cutting and gluing wood to make some incredibly strong structures! The Year 5βs got creative, finding natural items from around the school grounds to fill and decorate their Shekere musical instruments.
We are looking forward to creating even more exciting DIY projects before the year ends!πͺ΅π¨

We celebrated Lokiβs 1st birthday today!ππ₯³
Since September, Loki has been coming into school everyday, full time, and spending time with the children. Heβs been coming into our assemblies, staff meetings, and as heβs grown up with the children, theyβve grown to love him even more every day. Now, they take him out at break time and lunchtimes and walk him around our extensive grounds. The children have learnt how to put Lokiβs harness and lead on and how to pop him into his crate when it is time for a sleep.
Loki has been working on his training with the children, practising how to sit, how to lie down and how to leave (he often picks up dropped pencils and rubbers for the children!) and brings them over for us to retrieve.
Most recently, Loki has been attending our Year 6 production rehearsals and he has enjoyed every second of the dance moves and listening to all the beautiful singing.
Hereβs to many more wonderful years of celebrating our school wellbeing dog, LokiπΆπ₯°

Distinctly cooler on the still sunny but blustery south coast, upper body strength and agility was the order of the day as activities on land and water sapped at the energy levels of the Year 5 cohort at PGL yesterday.
All children constructed and tested rafts from barrels, rope and logs before launching them on Lake Barton with most meeting a watery end in the chilly waters.
Towering high above ground level, the Vertical Challenge proved a tough peak to crack, but there was impressive agility on show to overcome sections of ladders, tyres, ropes and nets.
Elsewhere, there was some sharp shooting with rifles, climbing and fencing to complete the day three programme as the intrepid Year 5 boys and girls displayed commendable concentration amid the onslaught.

ASTONISHED looks as the cord was pulled on the Giant swing, competition with bows and arrows, agility put to the test on walls and poles to fine tuning their bush craft skills, day two had it all as the relentless pace continued unabated on the English Riviera.
Bathed in warm sunshine for the most part, Year Five excelled themselves in all aspects as they took up the challenges on offer. The Giant Swing and the Trapeze, where you scale a telegraph pole and leap across a gap onto a rail, were conquered, the Climbing Wall proved challenging but within their grasp and, in the woods, they all succeeded in making fires and building shelters in an action packed day.
Finally, Aeroball, an old staff favourite from years gone by, made its return to finish things off with bounce and balance a plenty, before events were concluded with birthday celebrations for one of the boys and the 'not so' Silent Disco!

Sketchbooks play an important role in our Art curriculum and they are used from Reception to Year 6. Not only do they provide a safe space in which children can experiment and plan their projects, they are also used as a way of helping children process information in their own way, by making visual notes. Here is a snapshot of sketchbooks, from Year 3-6 ππ¨ ... See MoreSee Less
