🏃‍♂️🔥 Olympic Torch Athletics 2026 🔥🏃‍♀️

Ashley Manor was again delighted to host the Olympic Torch Athletics event, a much-loved tradition that has taken place annually since the Olympic Torch passed through Cheltenham in 2012 and visited the school.

It was a fantastic afternoon of athletics, bringing together children from Ashley Manor, Cheltenham College, Prestbury St Mary's Primary School, Bishops Cleeve Primary Academy, Gotherington Primary School and Glenfall Community Primary School.

Children competed with great enthusiasm in a range of long-distance, sprint and relay events.

The competitions were closely contested throughout, with every school demonstrating excellent determination, teamwork and sportsmanship.

Congratulations to Prestbury St Mary's, who finished as overall winners, with Ashley Manor securing second place and Cheltenham College taking third.

A huge thank you to all the pupils, staff and supporters who helped make the event such a success. It was a wonderful celebration of athletic achievement and community spirit, and a fitting tribute to the Olympic legacy that inspired the event over a decade ago. 🏅👏

In Science, Year 3 h

In Science, Year 3 have been learning about how magnets are used in everyday life. The children explored a range of real-life examples and discussed how magnets help us in different ways, from simple household items to more advanced technology.

The pupils enjoyed working in small groups to match descriptions to pictures, helping them to identify and understand different uses of magnets. They showed great teamwork, listened carefully to one another’s ideas and explained their thinking clearly.

The children then used the internet to research some more complex uses of magnets, including maglev trains, recycling and electromagnetism. They were fascinated to discover how magnets can help trains move without touching the track, how they are used to separate materials during recycling, and how electromagnets can be switched on and off using electricity.

✈️ Year 2 took off on an adventure through history with our Explorers unit! We explored the incredible life of Amelia Earhart, sequenced her achievements on a timeline, and then brought flight to life by designing our own paper planes—a glider, a jet, and a dart plane. The best part? Watching them soar over the “Atlantic”! 🌊

The children remembered so many fascinating facts and had a blast combining learning with hands-on fun. Future pilots and explorers in the making! 🚀
