Children in Nursery Maple are reading ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?’ by Bill Martin Jr this week. A beautifully illustrated, rhythmic story, which explores different animals and colours.

To link with the book, the children enjoyed their first music and movement session with Miss Maggie, incorporating the rhymes from the story.

The children were encouraged to move in ways that linked with each section of the story whilst listening to music. They were also listening for the music to stop, at which time they needed to follow a different instruction each time, for example, ‘stand on a floor marker’ or ‘hold a floor marker in the air’.

These sessions are a wonderful way to work on physical skills, whilst also encouraging young children to learn sounds, words and patterns, and develop their listening and instruction following skills.
